The year 2004 is to be the `year of the railroad` with the partial opening of the Seoul-Busan high-speed railway service in April. For more than three decades since the inauguration of the expressway between Seoul and the second largest city of Busan in 1970, the railway, despite its comfort and economy, remained overshadowed by highways which emerged as the nation`s main transportation artery.
2004년은 4월 서울부산간 고속철도의 부분적 개통으로 철도의 해가 될것이다. 1970년 서울과 제2의 도시인 부산사이에 고속도로가 개통된 이래로 30년이 넘는 세월동안 철도는 그 안락함과 경제성에도 불구하고 이 나라의 주요 수송동맥으로 떠오른 고속도로에 가려져 있었다.
